SWABI, July 15: PML-Q General Secretary Salim Saifullah Khan has said that the government plans to establish “green schools” all across Pakistan in order to improve the literacy rate in the country.

Mr Saifullah was addressing the deans, professors and members of the Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology here on Tuesday.

In the “green schools” along with modern education, he said, the students would be taught the struggle of Muslims for independence from the British rule and achievements of Quaid-i-Azam and other Muslim stalwarts who sacrificed their lives for a separate homeland.

He said rather than relying on other countries in the field of science and technology we should develop our own institutes where these disciplines could be taught.

He stressed on regular research work and consistent efforts for improving educational standards.

In this regard he gave examples of various world class universities and their excellent research work, saying that the “culture of regular research” should be promoted.

Education, he said, had played a vital role in the progress of nations and the government of Pakistan was also giving importance to this sector.

Mr Saifullah said political parties should realize the significance of education and must come forward to play their due role in promoting education.

“We failed to compete with the western world because they made tremendous progress in the field of education, especially in the disciplines of science and technology,” he said.
