BEIJING, July 15: The Chinese Civil Aviation Administration has allowed Pakistan International Airlines to operate flights to Shanghai.

“Taking into consideration, the long-standing brotherly friendship between the two countries, we have agreed to the suggestion of the airlines to choose Shanghai as its new destination point,” said an official of the Civil Administration.

Talking to newsmen here on Tuesday, he said the two countries can adopt a new framework for bilateral traffic right, since the existing one was reached some 10 years ago.

The Chinese side, he added, is prepared to hold talks with its Pakistani counterpart to decide necessary modalities, paving the way for immediate start of flights to Shanghai.

PIA was the first foreign airline, which had started operating on the Shanghai route in early 1964.

The route had provided an edge to the country to establish its economic relations with China.—APP
