BAHAWALPUR: The election tribunal headed by retired district and sessions judge Chaudhry Abdul Hafeez dismissed on Wednesday the election petition of Makhdum Sami Hasan Gilani against PML-N MNA Makhdum Ali Hasan Gilani (NA-183).

The tribunal also fined Sami Rs100,000 for his failure to prove the allegations he levelled in his petition against the MNA.

Sami, a relative of former PM Yusuf Raza Gilani, was a candidate of the National Awami Party in the 2013 elections.

PTI: Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) president Azam Swati demanded on Wednesday that the federal government pay Rs6 billion, out of Rs75 billion received from the coalition support fund, to the KP government to look after over 400,000 internally displaced people.

Swati told reporters that his government was not against the army operation in North Waziristan but they were not consulted on the operation.

He said only to hunt 1,400 militants, hundreds of thousands of people had been displaced. He said most of the militants had fled the tribal areas.

MANGO: The Islamia University organised a mango conference participated in by 60 delegates from home and abroad.

Speakers said Pakistan would export Rs65 million mangoes this year while new international markets could double its import next year.

Speakers included Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Mukhtar, Prof Dr Muhammad Abdul Rahim, Dr MSA Faqir of Bangladesh, Prof Dr Adil Abdulsawad from Egypt and Indian Prof Dr Vee Nachi Gora.

Pakistani experts said mango orchards were on 53,000 hectares area with an annual 7178.8 ton production.
