KARACHI, July 15: The city government plans to install traffic signals at different intersections, T junctions and roundabouts of the city to reduce traffic congestion and ensure smooth flow of traffic.

According to the plan, traffic signals will be installed at the T junction of the University Road and B Road leading towards Liaqatabad near the old Sabzimandi.

Residents of Al-Hilal Society and the adjoining face difficulties in approaching Civic Centre via the roundabout of the New Town police station, that not only results in a traffic mess at the roundabout, but also in more fuel consumption.

Residents of Liaqatabad and the adjoining areas face hardships in approaching the New Town police station and Shahid-e-Millat Road via the Civic Centre roundabout.

Installation of signals would not only facilitate the traffic flow but also provide vehicles with an easy access to the New Town police station and Shahid-e-Millat Road.

The project cost is estimated to be Rs1.3 million and the plan has been forwarded to the city Nazim for approval.

EDO transport and communication, Dr Tahir Soomro said the city government was taking measures to streamline the traffic system in the city.

He informed that as part of the plan to facilitate flow of traffic, the Jauhar Morr traffic signal would start functioning by the end of the month with the city Nazim inaugurating the plan.
