SSB terms SOA polls invalid

Published July 15, 2003

KARACHI, July 14: The Sindh Sports Board (SSB) on Monday refused to recognize the elections of Sindh Olympic Association (SOA) held Saturday.

According to a statement of SSB, the board was not invited to monitor the proceedings of the election. Neither any representative of the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) was invited in the elections.

“It has come to our notice that those provincial sports associations who had not held their elections in accordance with National Sports Policy-2001 were also allowed to cast their vote in the elections.”

The SSB had intimated the Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) in writing in advance about the situation but no action was taken by the POA.

The SSB will not release any grant to the SOA or any other provincial Sports Association who have not held elections according to National Sports Policy-2001.

The PSB has already stopped the grant of such federations which failed to hold their election as per the new sports policy.—APP
