ISLAMABAD, July 14: The German government has stopped funding for the women crisis centre, Mera Ghar, in Peshawar because of differences with the provincial government.
German embassy in a press release on Monday clarified that its government will not cease cooperation with the NWFP.
It will continue to support the projects for which it had committed itself like in the fields of education and health, it said.
“It is correct that a single project, the Women Crisis Centre-Mera Ghar, in Peshawar had to be discontinued because of differing views which arose between the MMA provincial government and the German side regarding the continuation of this project,” the German embassy said.
The official news agency circulated a news on Sunday that Germany had decided to suspend financial assistance to the NWFP due to ‘latest changes’ that had taken place in the province.
Quoting “reliable sources”, the news agency had said the decision had been taken by the German government after the restrictions imposed on a shelter home being constructed by the German government for the needy women in the NWFP.
