PESHAWAR, July 14: Additional District and Sessions Judge Tariq Yousafzai convicted on Monday a person for carrying fake currency and sentenced him to life imprisonment with a fine of Rs1 million.

The court observed that the prosecution had proved its case against the accused, Shahid Khan, without any shadow of doubt. However, the court acquitted a co-accused, Yahya Khan, as he was not arrested from the spot.

The accused Shahid Khan was arrested by the Crimes Investigation Department on April 19, 2002, while he was travelling in a car (Karachi PL 9537) and recovered fake currency of different denomination amounting to Rs14 million.

About the co-accused, the court observed that neither his name was mentioned in the FIR nor his arrest was shown on the spot.
