BAHAWALPUR, July 13: Costly antiques stolen from Sadiq Garh Palace at Dera Nawab Sahib have been retrieved from a jeweller and his son in Lahore.
Acting on a tip-off, the Township police raided the bus stop near Chowk Yateem Khana and recovered stolen articles, including crystal chandeliers, tables, tiles, books and decoration pieces. The police also arrested jeweller Haji Chiragh Din and his son Raheel Hussain of Township, Lahore, when they were about to aboard a Islamabad-bound bus with the stolen articles. They wanted to sell these articles worth Rs1.3 million either in Islamabad or Peshawar.
On receipt of intimation from the Township police, a police party of Ahmedpur East has been dispatched to Lahore to bring the arrested jewellers here for further interrogation.
According to Ahmedpur East police source, Javed of Bahawalpur had sold these costly articles to Haji Chiragh in Lahore.
NO-CONFIDENCE: A no-confidence motion against Nazim Union Council No 5 (Bahawalpur city) Chaudhry Aftab Gujjar has been passed at a special meeting of the union council.
The meeting was presided over by Naib Nazim Seth Naveedur Rehman which was attended by 12 members out of 20.
The no-trust was moved by Shaikh Azizur Rehman while it was seconded by Muhammad Siddiq Khan Baloch. The mover accused Nazim Chaudhry Aftab of corruption, misuse of powers and malpractices.
Secret balloting was held and 11 members cast their votes against the Nazim while the 12th member was allegedly abducted by former MPA Samiullah. Rumpus was also created in the meeting but the police and Elite force was called out who restored peace and order.
The Naib Nazim and presiding officer announced passing of the no-confidence motion. However, Nazim Aftab Gujjar later told newsmen that the no-trust motion against him proved a failure.
ATC: Range DIG Pervez Akbar Lodhi has said that an anti-terrorist cell has been established in Bahawalpur range.
He said the ATC arrested recently 10 activists of the banned organization allegedly involved in the sectarian terrorism in the range. He said strict measures taken by the police made it possible that no terrorist activity had happened during the last one year in Bahawalpur.
