MITHI, July 13: The adviser to the Sindh chief minister on home affairs, Aftab Ahmad Shaikh, has urged local doctors of Thar to serve in hospitals and basic health units of the district.

He regretted that most of the hospitals and BHUs in Thar were functioning without doctors, particularly women medical officers.

He said this at a meeting with district officers at the circuit house here on Saturday.

The EDO, health, Dr Kalar, told the adviser that 50 per cent posts of doctors were lying vacant in the district for the last two years.

Mr Shaikh said the matter would be taken up with health department authorities and they would be moved to ensure better health facilities in Thar.

The DPO of Tharparkar apprised the adviser of problems of lack of office buildings and vehicles and said the police headquarters in Mithi did not have amenities of water and electricity.

The adviser assured the DPO that problems confronting the police department would be resolved on priority basis.

COMMODITIES: The people of Thar have deplored the increase in prices of different commodities, particularly seed, by local traders.

Talking to this correspondent on Friday, they complained that wheat continued to be sold at higher rates despite the government had been saying that it would be provided at subsidized rates.

They urged government authorities to take notice of the high rates of commodities in the district.
