SUKKUR, Dec 16: The chairman, All Pakistan Organization of Small Traders and Cottage Industry, Haji Haroon Memon condemned the proposed increase in the line rent and local call charges announced by the PTCL.
He said the telephone has become a necessity of life and the government should have made local calls free of charges, like in foreign countries, and added that while on the other hand senior officials enjoy the facility of making local and foreign calls free of charges.
He said that the PTCL never went in loss and was earning billions of rupees every year.
He said the public could not protest against the department as it was under the shadow of the Army Supporting Team, which was there only to recover money from the subscribers.
He said the government instead of giving relief to the common consumer was putting unbearable load on them.
He demanded the government to withdraw the increase forthwith.
He said that in the recent past 40 per cent increase was made in the local calls and also GST and Income Tax had been levied.
HOSTAGE RECOVERED: The Ghotki police after a brief encounter recovered a hostage, Amir Bux Kalhoro, who was kidnapped three months ago by a group of dacoits.
PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES: The DIG, Police, Sukkur Range, Mushtaq Ahmed Shah, said that all precautionary measures had been taken for Eid to avert any untoward incident.
Talking to newsmen he said police in all the districts had been alerted and strict checking was being done on all the vulnerable points including airport, government buildings, barrages, bus stops and railway stations.
He said that special security arrangements had been made at all Eid-prayer venues.
