New boys will get chance: Aamir

KARACHI, July 12: Chairman of selectors Aamir Sohail said on Saturday that new boys will be tried out in the home series against Bangladesh next month.

“We will be providing opportunities to many boys of Pakistan ‘A’ against Bangladesh”, he told reporters at National Stadium where he was supervising the trials to pick the Pakistan Under-19 team for next month’s tour of Sri Lanka.

He said some senior players like all-rounder Abdul Razzaq and speedster Shoaib Akhtar will not be available for home series against Bangladesh but will be playing county cricket in England.

However, he failed to mention which other senior players will be rested against Bangladesh.

Aamir said players like Misbah-ul-Haq, Yasir Arafat, Rana Naveed-ul-Hasan, Saeed bin Nasir etc will be given exposure so that Pakistan could have two to three back-up players for each position.

He said players like Shoaib Malik and Danish Kaneria are getting better and mature.

“If boys are not hundred percent for that position they should atleast possess 70 per cent talent of replaced player,” he said.

“This will help us to prepare a strong team against South Africa. We will be going full strength against South Africans”, the former Pakistan captain maintained. “It’s very important series for us because we lost the last home series against South Africa,” he recalled.

He said there was no dearth of talent in the country but to make them a solid and strong nation have to show patience.

Responding to question regarding his target of rebuilding process, he said they want to bring among the top three teams in the world. “If Pakistan can offer a challenge or beat team like Australia than our target is achieved.”.

He expressed the hope that coming hectic home international season will help the selectors to monitor the performance of the team and adopt strategy accordingly.

Aamir added they will be working step by step to make Pakistan a solid combination. “We will be looking at the boy’s temperament and technique and other aspects against Bangladesh before picking him against South Africa.”—APP
