JENIN, July 11: A group of some 30 foreign peace activists, assisted by local residents, on Friday reopened a road east of the northern West Bank city of Jenin that had been closed since the start of the intifada.
With rudimentary equipment, members of the International Solidarity Movement (ISM) removed the concrete blocks which had movement impossible for cars between Jenin and a number of villages to the east.
Some of the activists were carrying banners calling on Israel to reopen the roads in the West Bank, most of which has been reoccupied by the army for more than a year.
“Open the roads for peace!”, said some of them.—AFP
