ISLAMABAD, Dec 16: Felicitating the nation on Eidul Fitr, President Gen Pervez Musharraf has underscored the need for curbing the trends of extremism, hatred, violence, sectarianism and sentimentalism.

Gen Musharraf, in his message on the occasion, asked the nation to work for the establishment of a society based on the Islamic concept of tolerance, where every individual considered himself as an equal citizen of the state.

The president said he was convinced that by following the golden principles of Islam, the negative trends of sentimentalism, extremism, hatred, violence and sectarianism could be curbed.

“While expressing our gratefulness to the bounties and blessing of Allah Almighty on this happy day of Eid we must not forget the real joy of Eid lies in sharing it with our kith and kin, neighbours and above all the needy people of the society,” he said.

He said: “Let us resolve today that we will offer every sacrifice for the attainment of the goal of Pakistan’s prosperity and national prestige. We can enjoy the real happiness of Eid when we discharge our duties honestly and sincerely. May Allah Almighty bless us with the real celebrations of Eid, Amin.”
