LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Tuesday issued notices to 63 politicians including Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on a petition asking the politicians to bring their foreign assets back to Pakistan, DawnNews reported.
The hearing was held in the courtroom of the High Court judge Justice Khalid Mahmood Khan, in which the petitioner Barrister Javed Iqbal Jafri contended that most of the politicians had transferred their assets illegally to foreign countries and if these were brought back to Pakistan, the country would be free of external debt.
The court issued notices to 63 politicians including the prime minister, Pakistan Muslim League-Q leader Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain , former president Asif Ali Zardari and Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf chief Imran Khan to submit their response in this regard.
The court further ordered that the politicians who could not be informed, should be notified through advertisements.
The hearing of the case was subsequently adjourned to June 15.
Barrister Jafri had filed this petition originally in 1996 against 26 political leaders and later amended it, adding more names of politicians to it. He had stated that the respondent politicians had transferred at least $300,000 million to foreign countries through money laundering, causing a huge loss to the national exchequer.

I wonder if the judiciary in Pakistan has enough guts to make these big wigs bring back their deposits from foreign banks and pay taxes on all such income. I bet they would not succeed in their effort. We owe our gratitude to Barrister Jaffery for submitting his case to the court of public opinion.

No more empty slogans for the social uplift of the common man in Pakistan by the politicians. If they are true to their slogans, then, yes, BRING BACK THE ASSETS. SImple message but doubt it would get across through the brains of our leaders for action as envisged by the court....However, we as the common me in Paksitan have to have a start somewhere and should fully support these moves by the judiciary.

I feel petitioner Jaffri, as it seems, knowing that 300,000 millions assets are in foreign banks, why he did not provide details of assets politicians-wise to the court to facilitate and expedite matter but with documentary evidence. It is easy to allege someone but to prove. If I say Jaffri too had assets abroad, and he is taking up this matter to hide his own assets, after all he is not an angel, but in the habit of going courts to keep himself in the limelight and fetch litigants. Nothing would come out and it will ultimately prove to be a futile effort on the part of the petitioner. But why politicians only, there might be other categories too.

Pakistan is facing external debt of Rs. 6 trillion one hundred eighty billion five hundred million) approximately Rs.6 trillion and as per above mentioned figure of foreign assets of politicians is Rs.30 trillion.... from 30 trillion give only 6 trillion to your country... it is nothing .... Imran khan has No foreign assets coz IK always in favor of bringing money back into the country... he always criticized on politicians those have foreign assets and they are not bringing it back... if this money bring back in Pakistan it will become a happiest country. No inflation, No unemployment etc etc

Seems like the LHC is getting down on it,s knees and begging these guys to bring the ill gotten money back. These guys quote Quran and islamic values all the time, somebody needs to tell these guys its against Quran to steal. Where will Pakistan go with these guys in the leadership. Question for LHC, what would be ur next step when these guys decline to bring the money back, Courts in most countries will issues arrest warrants if the culprits don't follow the court's orders, will u do the same.

I always wondered what Khan was really living off. He has such lavish life style send his kids to the best private schools in London. Who pays for all that and where is that income coming from ?
It seems even he has some secret assets hidden some where. How else.
IK has a public life and readily accuses everyone under the sky for some thing or the other. One can not shout foul all the time yet have dirt on ones on stick.
