SRINAGAR, July 10: Four Mujahideen and three civilians were killed in occupied Kashmir, officials said on Thursday.

Suspected Kashmiri fighters shot dead a civilian, Ashiq Hussain and another person Maqsood Ahmed, in the southern Doda district overnight, a police spokesman said in Srinagar.

Police said Ahmed — a member of Hizbul Mujahideen — was killed because he was intending to surrender to Indian troops, while the motive for Hussain’s killing was not clear.

In the same district security forces shot dead a Kashmiri late on Wednesday, the spokesman said.

He said Indian troops shot dead two more Mujahideen in Kupwara.

Police said the two died in overnight encounters, one along the LoC.

Meanwhile police constable Fayaz Ahmed and a woman, Raja Begum, who were among the 28 people injured on July 4 in a grenade attack on Kashmir’s senior minister Peerzada Mohammed Sayeed, died in Srinagar hospital on Thursday, police said.

The attack that killed one and injured the minister took place in the southern Kashmir district of Anantnag.

The latest killings came as Chief Minister Mufti Mohammed Sayeed urged the residents of Kashmir to isolate freedom fighters.

“There is a need to isolate elements responsible for the killing of innocents,” Sayeed said in a statement, after visiting Dhanaka village in Rajouri district, where gunmen on Monday shot dead five Hindus.—AFP
