DADU, July 10: The Taluka Hospital Sehwan is functioning without child, cardio, gynaecologist, ENT and eye specialists since the last many years.

The residents of Sehwan Taluka are facing great difficulties in the absence of specialist doctors.

The seat of the chief medical officer is also lying vacant since the last two months.

The hospital was established by Z. A. Bhutto in 1973. Since then no specialists doctors for any department has been appointed in the hospital.

Dr Manzoor Hussain Brohi, who has been working in the hospital since the last six years, told this correspondent that between 40 and 50 patients having chest problems are examined in the hospital daily, while 120 were registered TB patients in the hospital.

The in charge, medical store of the hospital, Mohammad Paryal Ghambir, said that the health department had not supplied medicines for the last two months as a result of which there would be a shortage of medicines next month.

PROTEST: A large number of Nazims, councillors and residents took out a procession in Sehwan on Wednesday to protest against the alleged use of substandard material in the construction work of the shrine of Lal Shahbaz Qalandar.

Speaking at the rally, Citizens’ Action Committee chief Basheer Ahmed Otho alleged that the contractor had used substandard material in the construction work of the tomb and had not completed the work in the stipulated period.

He alleged that during recent rains, tiles of the tomb fell over the visitors as a result six devotees were injured and rainwater entered the shrine.

Mr Otho also alleged that construction work was not carried out according to the approved design.

mPROJECT DIRECTOR: Director of the shrine project Aijaz Mangi, when contacted, agreed that the contractors had delayed the construction work and had not carried out the work of the tomb according to the approved design.

Mr Mangi, however, denied that substandard material was used in the construction work but said that he had stopped the payment of Rs6.85 million to the construction company as he was not satisfied with the work.
