MINGORA, July 10: Provincial Science and Information Technology Minister Hussein Ahmad Kanju said on Thursday that the NWFP government was facing financial constraints and the Centre should pay it the outstanding Rs309 billion so that developmental schemes could be initiated.

Talking to newsmen, he said the provincial government was adopting policies for the welfare of the people but some elements were spreading propaganda against it.

He said the law department was reviewing the Hisba Act in view of some points raised by the governor.

He said the act had been prepared in accordance with Islamic teachings to  provide justice to the people at their doorsteps.

He said the people had had enough of the existing legal system, where they were unable to get justice even after decades.

He said funds had been provided by the Asian Development Bank for construction of roads through the Malakand Rural Development Project (MRDP), but the process was lengthy and the projects could not be initiated despite a lapse of three years.

He said the construction of roads was the main demand of the people and the chief minister had inaugurated the work.

He said the MRDP project director had been transferred and a person who could run it successfully would be appointed.— Correspondent
