HYDERABAD, July 10: A group of women of Tando Yousuf took to the streets here on Thursday against the alleged malpractice in the distribution of Zakat funds.

Holding a demonstration outside the Hyderabad Press Club, Hanifa, Hawa, Khanzadi and others told journalists that the chairman of the local Zakat committee was distributing funds, meant for rehabilitation of displaced people, among his relatives.

They said no record of Zakat funds was being maintained and the deserving people were being deprived of their rights.

The women appealed to Sindh Zakat and Ushr Minister Dr Irfan Gul Magsi to take notice of corrupt practices of the Zakat committee chairman and appoint an honest person as the chairman to ensure judicious distribution of funds.

RAIN WATER: Residents of Jamshoro held a protest demonstration outside the press club here on Thursday against the accumulation of rainwater at the Jamshoro railway crossing.

They raised slogans against irrigation officials for releasing more water in the Karachi Wah, which was overflowing.

Talking to journalists, Jamshoro Ittehad leaders Hakim Chandio, Dr Ashok Kumar and others said the people were facing problems due to accumulation of water in the area.

They said the drainage system had collapsed and several houses were affected by the rainwater.

They demanded that the accumulated water should immediately be drained out.

MBBS STUDENTS: A group of MBBS final year students of the Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences continued their hunger strike outside the local press club for the second consecutive day on Thursday.

They claimed that the vice-chancellor of the university assured students before commencement of examinations that students failed in one subject would be declared pass. They further claimed that they passed all the subjects but were declared fail.

They threatened that they would observe a hunger strike unto death if they were not declared pass.
