BIRMINGHAM, July 9: South Africa spinner Nicky Boje was scheduled to undergo surgery in Nottingham on Wednesday after breaking his shin bone against England in a one-dayer on Tuesday, a team spokesman said.

The 30-year-old turned over his ankle as he fielded a ball immediately after coming on as a substitute fielder, breaking his left shin and spraining ankle ligaments in the match at Edgbaston.

He immediately signalled for assistance and was carried from the field before being taken to hospital.

He was due to return to South Africa as soon as he had recovered.

Boje was therefore not included in the squad for South Africa’s five-Test series against England which starts later this month at Edgbaston.
