KASUR, July 9: On the directives of the district and sessions judge, Saddar police have registered a case against six people, including a sub-inspector, two ASIs and a constable, on the charges of illegally detaining and torturing a man in Lahore.

According to reports, Muhammad Rafiq was going to Khara village on his bicycle when Lahore’s Burkey police team stopped him and started his search. On his queries, SI Malik Muhammad Javed, ASIs Sabir Ali and Muhammad Husain, constable Ali Ahmad and two other men dragged him into their pick-up and drove him to Lahore. On their way, the policemen allegedly tortured him and snatched Rs6,000 in cash and a wrist watch from him.

In Lahore, they confined him to an unknown place for three days after which his brother Muhammad Latif learnt about the incident. When he contacted SI Muhammad Javed, the latter demanded Rs50,000 for his brother’s release.

Thereafter, Latif wrote an application to the Kasur sessions judge, who sent a court bailiff to retrieve Rafiq from illegal confinement.

Kasur Saddar police have registered a case against the accused, who went missing before crackdown.

BOMB SEIZED: A time-bomb was recovered from Khudian village (Chak 21), reports reaching here revealed on Wednesday.

According to reports, some farmers were working in their fields when one of them found a small bag. Smelling a rat, he informed the Sarai Mughal police, who reached there and found a bomb in the bag.

Later, DPO Mian Ghulam Muhammad Kalyar along with a bomb disposal squad reached there.

BRIDGE COLLAPSES: An alternative bridge built at Mustafabad for light vehicular traffic collapsed here on Tuesday morning when a truck laden with scrap tried to cross it. No casualty was reported till last reports came in on Wednesday evening.
