GUJRANWALA, July 9: The district police through a notification issued here on Wednesday banned the use of mobile phones by visitors at police stations across the district.

DPO Saud Aziz directed all SHOs that mobile phone holders should not be allowed in the limits of police stations. He said the visitors provided opportunity through mobile phones to the accused to converse with their family members and friends which might cause any untoward incident.

Meanwhile, all SHOs pasted this directive at police stations and urged mobile phone holders to close them before entering police stations otherwise an action would be taken against them.

GCCI: The local chamber of commerce and industry expressed its satisfaction over the city package of Rs10 million announced by the Punjab chief minister.

Speaking at a meeting held here on Wednesday presided over by chamber president Khawaja Tahir Hassan, the participants demanded that the export centre should be completed within the stipulated period in front of the GCCI office to promote the industry.

SATISFACTION: Activists of the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal expressed their satisfaction over the restoration of the membership of MNA Mufti Ibrar after suspending the tribunal’s decision by apex court.

Speaking at a meeting held here on Wednesday presided over by MNA Hamidullah, the participants said the MMA would continue to oppose the anti-Islam US policies which were being implemented by the government.

They accused that the government was implementing US agenda in Pakistan for crushing religious parties and madaris.

MPA Mufti Ghulam Farid Hazarvi, JUP district amir Maulana Abdul Malik Shah, JI amir Allama Obaidul Rehman Madni and MMA’s district amir Hafiz Hamid Akhtar were also present on the occasion.

DEATH SENTENCE: A local court on Wednesday handed down death sentence with a fine of Rs50,000 to a convict in a murder case.

He will have to undergo an additional six-month hard jail in case of default in the payment of fine.

According to the prosecution, Muhammad Khan had killed Muhammad Abdi over monetary dispute in Model Town on May 19, 2001.

Meanwhile, another court awarded nine-year imprisonment and fined Rs10,000 to a convict in a hudood case.

According to the prosecution, Muhammad Akbar had humiliated a woman, ‘D’, in Qila Dedar Singh some two years ago.
