In Jhuddo town, nine persons were injured when the roof of a house caved in. Many other people were also injured in rain-related incidents in areas of Mirpurkhas, Digri, Kot Ghulam Mohammad and Umerkot talukas.

The rains also disrupted drainage and sewerage systems, resulting in accumulation of water in streets and roads.

Civic agencies failed to drain out standing water in low-lying areas. Reports from desert areas said people who had migrated due to persistent drought were returning back.

BADIN: Low-lying areas were submerged by knee-deep water as the district and its adjoining areas received heavy rains on Tuesday.

The downpour started at 12 noon and continued intermittently for over three hours. Pangrio, Khoski, Kadhan, Kario Ganwhar, Matli Rajo-Khanani and other towns of Badin received rains.

The rains caused 15-foot-wide breaches in the Shadi Large Wah at RD-158, Raj Wah at RD-57, and the Imam Wah in the Matli taluka, damaging standing crops. Villagers plugged the breaches. Several distributaries, including the Wanai Shakh, were also overflowing.

SANGHAR: Rains continued for the third consecutive day here on Tuesday, playing havoc with cotton and chili crops.

The entire district received light rains while the Khipro taluka was lashed by heavy downpour that stopped at 4:30pm. It was drizzling when this report was filed at 8.45pm.

KHAIRPUR: The continuing rains have added to the miseries of the people as drainage systems in the district’s seven towns collapsed and water inundated many houses.

Rainwater accumulated in different parts of the towns, including the main roads, chowks, bazaars, hospitals, schools and government offices.

Residents took to the streets against the apathy of the authorities concerned regarding draining out accumulated water.

The people of Pakka Chang held a protest demonstration and staged a sit-in outside the office of the taluka Nazim against failure of the drainage system.

The protesters said standing sewage and rainwater could spread epidemics.

In Kot Bungalow, traders staged a demonstration, demanding disposal of rainwater.

They blocked the National Highway and raised slogans against the local administration.

Residents of Panj Hatti, Daya and other areas staged demonstrations against accumulation of rainwater and choking of gutter lines.

Raising slogans against the municipal administration, they blocked the National Highway and burnt tyres.

The protesters said rainwater had gushed into houses but municipal officials were not attending their duties.

The residents called off their protest after District Nazim Syed Nafisa Shah reached there and assured them that the water would be drained out in 24 hours.

Godu Shop, Sirai Ganwar Khan, Abid Colony, Altaf Colony and Shaheedabad residents also protested against the failure of the drainage system.

Offices of the district’s civil judge, judicial magistrate and Mukhtiarkar and many other government offices also came under water.
