ISLAMABAD, July 8: A Kashmiri youth, Ahsan Aziz, who was reportedly picked up by Pakistani intelligence agents at the behest of American FBI on May 30 from a Mirpur mosque, is still missing, and no official agency is in a position to reveal his whereabouts.
This was stated by the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) MNA from Lahore and coordinator of “Ahsan Aziz release committee”, Fareed Paracha, while briefing newsmen at a local hotel on Tuesday.
The committee, he said, “appeals to the people to hold protest rallies across the country against this brutal act next week.” The committee would also seek judicial remedy from superior courts.
The MMA’s MNA was accompanied by the father of the detainee, Commander (retd) Abdul Aziz Khan, and his father-in-law, Prof Aleefuddin Turabi.
The youth’s father said that his son, 34, was forcefully picked up by four people and stuffed into a vehicle when he came out of the mosque after ‘Isha’ prayers.
Mr Paracha said the FBI’s activities had been growing in Pakistan in the name of fighting terrorism, and a number of innocent people like eminent nuclear scientist Dr Bashiruddin Ahmed, Dr Amir Aziz, Dr Ahmed Javed Khawaja and his brother Ahmed Naveed Khawaja were abducted by the agencies, who were later released on court orders after their captors found no wrongdoing against them.
“It was a matter of grave concern that the activities of FBI had been extended up to AJK now, which was a base camp of liberation movement of Kashmir,” said the MMA leader.
Eng Aziz, he said, was a peace-loving citizen who had no link with the negative activities, and his detention under dubious circumstances must be an eye-opener for the national and international human rights bodies.
He said: “While we condemn the atrocities unleashed by the Indian troops on innocent Kashmiris in the Indian Held Kashmir, we are at a loss how to defend our own people from being subjected to a similar treatment on this side of the border.”
Mr Paracha said it was also a human rights violation of the worst type, since the mother of the ‘detainee’ was extremely ill, and his wife in a state of shock for the last forty days of his captivity.
The “Ahsan Aziz release committee” announced that it will move superior courts against the abduction soon.
