HYDERABAD, July 8: The Sindh Hari Committee has demanded that water rotation programme being implemented at different water channels should be ended and water should be supplied to Sindh in accordance with the 1945 agreement.

At a meeting held here on Sunday, the central committee of the peasants’ organization further demanded that water channels should be desilted, the Right Bank Outfall Drain be constructed according to its original layout, people dislocated by the project be paid compensation and peasants of Okara be allotted lands.

In another resolution, the meeting called for releasing water to tail-ends of the Chakar Shakh, Khachhar Shakh, Zaur Shakh and the Kalri Minor.

It condemned the statement of Federal Water and Power Minister Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao and demanded that Kalabagh dam and Thal canal projects should be shelved.

It also expressed grief over the massacre of people in Quetta and demanded immediate arrest of the killers.

Comrade Azhar Jatoi presided over the meeting

JSQM: The Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz has deplored the non-release of funds to the irrigation department for strengthening embankments of canals and waterways.

In a joint statement issued here on Sunday, JSQM senior vice-chairman Shafi Mohammad Karnani and joint secretary Manzoor Memon said the funds were not being released intentionally to create an impression, in case of any canal breach, that sufficient water was available in Sindh.

They said corrupt irrigation department officials were privy to this conspiracy but, the JSQM leaders alleged, they were more interested in breaches to earn money than in repairs of embankments.

They asked the party cadre to cooperate with local people to supervise embankments of waterways and demanded immediate release of funds to repair canal embankments.

DEMO: A large number of Millat-i-Jafria activists held a protest demonstration and performed Matam outside the press club here on Sunday against the massacre of people in Quetta.

Speaking on the occasion, Altaf Al-Hussani, Kazim Shah Naqvi, Nizamul Haideri and others said the incident was aimed at creating disunity among Muslims, terming it terrorism.
