KARACHI, July 8: The Nazims and Naib Nazims of union councils of Orangi Town have expressed their apprehension and concern over the uncalled for interference by the Sindh local bodies minister, Mohammad Hussain, in the working of the town.

Speaking at a press conference on Monday at Karachi Press Club, Naib Nazim Ghulam Jilani of UC-8 alleged that the provincial local bodies ministry had frozen the account of the Orangi Town for the last eight months, which appeared to be an effort to malign the working of local bodies system, besides damaging the credibility of councilors, Naib Nazims and Nazims.

He said that the uncalled for interference of the minister had paralyzed the whole development activities, earlier taking place at a drastic pace in the town.

He said that in order to oust the Nazim Orangi Town, Shahid Alam, popularly known as Guddu Bihari, he was implicated in a fake case of murder.

Citing partial attitude of the minister towards Nazim of Orangi Town, he pointed out that in violation of SLGO-2001, Naib Town Nazim, Feroz Bengali was handed over the charges as acting Town Nazim while the Town Nazim was absent for securing pre- arrest bail.

He sounded a note of warning that if interference in the working of the town was not stopped within three days and funds of the town was not restored forthwith, the whole town and union councils would be closed for indefinite period.

Nazim Jumman Darban of UC-5 apprehended for fear of the lives of all UC Nazims, as their houses were being marked with evil intentions by those elements, who were unwilling to see development and progress in the town.—PPI
