LANDI KOTAL: Tribal women displayed handicrafts at an exhibition organised at a local hotel here the other day. A large number of people visited the exhibition and took keen interest in the items prepared by the tribal women.

The exhibition was organised at the conclusion of a two-month vocational training programme for about 30 women from Landi Kotal tehsil of Khyber Agency.

Refugee Affected and Hosting Areas (RAHA) in collaboration with the government of Japan organised the training. RAHA officials also distributed sewing machines, certificates and Rs5,000 each to the trained women.

The exhibition was jointly inaugurated by Faisal Anwar, program manager of RAHA, Fata chapter, and Mohammad Sajjad Khan, director general monitoring and evaluation, Fata Secretariat.

The tribal women displayed handmade dresses, dyed items, bed sheets, sofa sheets and jewellery items.

RAHA’s Fata communication officer Rahat Shinwari said the exhibition was aimed at encouraging and highlighting the skills of the tribal women.

Speaking on the occasion, RAHA officials said the training in different traits would help the tribal women to earn livelihood honourably in a man dominated society.

They said tribal women had great ability and talent which needed to be utilised for development of the tribal region.

They said RAHA with the assistance of the United Nations and the Japanese government would extend such programmes and activities to other areas of Fata.
