ISLAMABAD: The Rescue-15 department of the Islamabad police, on Thursday, arranged a ‘safe city walk’, to raise awareness among the citizens regarding the self-precautionary measures, which can help enhance the security of the city. They also promoted the liaison of police with the public.

This was walk was held as a sequel of the ‘safe city campaign’ of the Islamabad police, launched o ensure the protection of the lives and the property of the citizen, using mass awareness initiatives.

The walk was held from China chowk to D-chowk, and was attended the assistant inspector general (AIG) of operations in Islamabad, Dr Sultan Azam Temuri, acting senior superintended of traffic police, Asmat Ullah, along with the police officials, students and members of the civil society.

AIG Temuri said that the safe city campaign was launched to curb car lifting and property theft in the city. The equipment and tools to prevent car lifting are available at rescue-15, including immobilisers, chip cards and locks.

Tools and services to make homes safe are also available with the department, including android, GSM and Wi-Fi based software that have been designed as panic alarm systems for homes and shops.

This campaign has encouraged the citizens to support the police. The data of about 1.9 million stolen vehicles is available with rescue-15, and the public is welcome to get their vehicles verified before selling and purchasing, the AIG said.

He further added that the Islamabad police have installed a new helpline system, with specially designed software to keep records of all received calls and tackle undesirable calls.

He said that the police have taken steps to improve the services of rescue-15, including addition of personnel and vehicles, and reducing the response time.
