LAHORE: While reports regarding appointments of national squad officials continue to emerge in the media, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has decided to select head coach, batting and fielding coaches and even manager through advertisements in print media.

The decision was taken at the fourth meeting of the PCB management committee held here on Wednesday with chairman Najam Sethi in the chair.

Those who attended the meeting as the management committee members included Shaharyar Khan, Naveed Akram Cheema, Yousuf Naseem Khokhar, Shakeel Shaikh, Zaheer Abbas and Iqbal Qasim.

“The members were given a briefing on the feedback gathered from the team management appointed for the Asia Cup and the ICC World Twenty20. The members discussed and deliberated on the future course of action and unanimously agreed that advertisements for the vacant coaching positions should be published,” a PCB press release issued after the meeting said.

Two months ago, Moin Khan was selected as national team’s head coach, Shoaib Mohammad as fielding coach while the PCB continued with Mohammad Akram as bowling coach.

The PCB made these appointments after giving advertisements for only two successive assignments — Asia Cup and the World T20.

Moin, though left the post after Pakistan failed to make the World T20 semis for the first time. However, he expressed his availability for the Pakistan team in any role in the future.

Zakir Khan, PCB’s director international cricket who acted as national team manager during the Bangladesh tour , will not continue on the said post as an advertisement is also being given for it.

Azhar Khan, head of the national selection committee with Saleem Jaffer and Farrukh Zaman as its members, picked national teams for the Asia Cup and the World T20. Their contracts were however not extended while the Asia Cup was still in progress.

Former captain and Test wicket-keeper Rashid Latif was appointed as the chief selector who was to take charge of his duties on April 1. But he declined to take up the position, mainly due to some administrative differences with the PCB.

“After filling the posts of manager, head coach, batting and fielding coaches, new chief selector will also be selected by the PCB chairman,” sources said.

Pakistan are scheduled to tour Sri Lanka to play two Tests and three One-day Internationals in July-August this year and naturally all the national squad posts need to be filled before this tour.

Meanwhile, Sethi also informed the members that he had accepted the ‘Big Three’ formula after putting up a condition that ‘Big Three’ — India, Australia and England — would play against Pakistan during the next eight years cycle (2015-2023).

“It has been decided that these three countries will play against Pakistan during 2015-2023. India has decided to play six series during these years, Pakistan will host India four times, while India in return will host Pakistan twice during this period,” Sethi told the committee members.

“Pakistan can host India whether in the UAE or anywhere else with the mutual understanding with India,” Sethi told the meeting.

Meanwhile, a press release was also issued which stated: “The chairman and chief operating officer [Subhan Ahmed] updated the members on the ‘Big Three’ issue pertaining to ICC Commercial revenues and Governance and PCB’s stance on giving conditional support on the ICC resolutions.

“The members were briefed in detail about the Future Tours Programme/bilaterals agreed upon with all Test playing boards for the forthcoming eight years and also the discussions with the BCCI with regard to the future tours.

“Updates were given in relation to Mohammad Amir’s ban and the confirmation of Pakistan being nominated as president of the ICC in 2015.

“Pursuant to the evaluation of various applications received for the post of PCB election commissioner, the management committee approved the appointment of Ahmed Shehzad Farooq Rana, a Supreme Court Advocate, as PCB election commissioner,” the release concluded.
