HARIPUR, July 6: Provincial chief of the PML-N Pir Sabir Shah on Sunday termed the proposed construction of two dams on Dorr River in Abbottabad district a conspiracy against the people of Hazara.

Talking to newsmen, he said the projects would create a situation leading to a conflict and suggested that they must be shelved unless a consensus was achieved between the people of Haripur and Abbottabad.

He said the people of Haripur had a long history of rendering sacrifices for the larger national interest which was evident from the Tarbela and Ghazi Brotha power projects, Khanpur and half a dozen small dams.

The construction of Rajoyya and Harno dams on the Dorr River would be an injustice to the people of Haripur, he said.

He expressed the fear that implementation of the projects would leave hundreds of thousands of acres of agriculture land barren leave thousands of unskilled people jobless.

He foresaw a drought-like situation in the district owing to accumulation of water in the proposed reservoirs and said the projects would lower the water table in the district.

He said dams should be contructed on some other rivers.

He said such controversial issues should be shelved because the international situation demanded unity among the people.
