WASHINGTON, July 6: A US-based Sindh advocacy group urged Pakistan on Sunday to stop work on the Greater Thal Canal and ensure the distribution of water according to the agreed accords.

In its 19th annual meeting which ended in Los Angeles on Sunday, the Sindhi Association of North America (SANA) also demanded a just NFC Award based on contribution to the divisible pool.

The SANA general body also adopted a number of resolutions calling for the restoration of basic human rights in Pakistan. It rejected the LFO and demanded restoration of the 1973 Constitution.

The organization also demanded diversion of non-developmental funds to social sectors aimed at poverty alleviation and uplift of the people.

It urged the government to give the armed forces a true federal character giving equal share to all provinces in all its branches and ranks.

The two-day convention was attended by people from all over the United States and Canada. A number of other programmes including business and science workshops and Sindhi music concerts.

CAIR: US Muslims are condemning the Quetta attack.

The Council on American-Islamic Relations, a Washington-based Islamic civil rights and advocacy group, said: “The CAIR condemns in the strongest possible terms this vicious attack on Muslim worshippers. There can be no justification for such a crime.

In a separate statement, the American Muslim Council, another leading Muslim advocacy group, described the attack as “the worst sectarian violence in the history of Pakistan”.
