KARACHI: Former Pakistan captain Rashid Latif said on Monday he did not join the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) as chief selector cum head of anti-corruption as the situation prevailing in the PCB was “not conducive” for him.

“I wanted to work for the betterment of cricket with a new vision and fresh approach to take the game to new heights,” said Rashid. “But prevailing conditions in the PCB did not allow me to join the board.”

Rashid said he had never been power hungry nor had he been fishing for any particular position in the board. “Monetary gains and power has never been my aim, I have always remained keen to serve Pakistan cricket with dedication,” he said.

“I was hoping that I may be working independently under the PCB chairman but circumstances did not look favourable for me there,” said Rashid.

He regretted that same old faces, including the manager of 2003 Pakistan team, had been in the PCB for the past 10-15 years without really contributing anything substantial. “These people still want to latch on to their jobs at the cost of Pakistan cricket,” said Rashid.

The former wicketkeeper said he had worked hard and prepared a comprehensive plan on modern lines for different areas of the game which could help Pakistan team excel in the 2015 World Cup to be co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand.

Rashid clarified that he had received the contract to join the PCB on deputation from the Port Qasim Authority (PQA) but it was not possible for him to straight away join the cricket board without proper clearance from the ministry concerned.
