SWABI: The government will fill more than 500 vacant posts of teachers in the district in the current month, according to District Education Officer Abdus Salam.

He told journalists here on Sunday that the posts were vacant for the last few months. The process of filling the vacant posts was in final stage, he added.

Mr Salam said that 12 posts of principal were vacant in the district. “The number of vacant posts of each vice-principal and headmaster is six. These posts will be filled very soon,” he said.

The official said that 250 posts of primary school teachers were also vacant in the district. “The number of vacant posts of secondary school teachers is 190,” he said. He added that 14 pots of certified teachers were vacant in different schools.

“Seven posts of Qari have also been lying vacant in high and higher secondary schools. There are five vacant posts of each theology teachers and physical education teachers in the disteict,” Mr Salam said.

He said that according to his information 14,000 teachers would be appointment in the entire province. “It has been planned that 8,000 teachers will be appointed in the current month and the remaining 6,000 in the following month,” the official said.

CONTEST: A three-day design, build and fly competition was held in Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology.

The event was organised by GIK Institute chapter of American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA). Air Commodore Mohammad Usman Anwar was chief guest on the occasion.

The competition was sponsored by Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Careers Programme, a joint venture of Higher Education Commission and Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences.

Speaking on occasion, Mr Anwar said that skills exhibited by the participants showed that the young engineers could deliver according to the needs and requirements of the country’s defence.

The Team Arrows from CAE Risalpur grabbed first prize of Rs70,000 and Team MUET Avengers from Mehran University of Engineering and Technology, Jamshoro got second prize of Rs50,000 while Team Scavengers from Institute of Space Technology, Islamabad got third prize of Rs35,000 in electric powered category.

In the solar powered category, Team Solar Electronic from Air University, Islamabad was awarded Rs25,000 for the best design.

Team Pulsars from PIEAS, team Bolt from IST, team UOL Chargers from University of Lahore, Team WECAD from Wah Engineering College and Pakistan Warriors from AIOU each got Rs10,000 as consolation prize for their excellent efforts.
