SHEIKHUPURA, July 4: Transporters on Friday blamed that the tehsil council’s toll tax recovery contractor was responsible for spoiling their business.

Transporters’ representative Anwar Manj told newsmen that as per official schedule every bus and wagon passing through the city was liable to pay Rs6 for 24 hours under the parchi system. He alleged that employees of the contractor were extorting Rs20 to Rs25 from transporters instead, causing heavy losses to them.

Mr Manj alleged that the contractor was extorting money from transporters at the behest of the tehsil council authority.

He said that several meetings were held with the Tehsil Nazim and other officials of the tehsil council to sort out the issue, but to no avail.

He urged the governor and the chief minister to direct the tehsil council authority to refrain from overcharging and recover the toll tax amount as per schedule.
