HYDERABAD, July 4: The residents of Gau Shala, Usmanabad and Shama Colony blocked Phulelli Bridge on Friday to protest against the non-availability of water to their areas.
Raising slogans against the Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa), the residents were demanding immediate supply of water to their areas, located in union council 12 and 13.
The managing director, Wasa, M. Tahir, said that on Thursday night the residents of Ilyasabad occupied an installation of Wasa and supplied water to different areas without any regulation and time limit, resulting in shortage of water to several areas.
He admitted that the water shortage was going on for the last several days on account of interruption in the power supply.
He said that the people supplied water for several hours whereas the normal timing of the water supply is two hours.
He said that police have now been asked to combat any untoward incident.
He further said that the people should not occupy government installations.
TRANSFORMER: An electricity transformer in Latifabad Unit No8 caught fire on Friday, disrupting the power supply to some areas.
The power supply to the areas, being fed from the transformer, remained suspended for three hours.
People demanded the Hesco officials to have the transformer replaced.
