SARGODHA, Oct 11: A newly set-up cellular phone company has been fleecing common man by creating artificial shortage of SIM card.
One Aamer Masood, owner of the Computer World in Trust Plaza, alleged that he obtained licence to sell SIM card from the company by paying Rs20,000. But the staff concerned did not issue a receipt.
He claimed that the price of a SIM card for a dealer was Rs3,800 who sold it to a customer at the rate of Rs3,999. But, he said, the company was selling the card to its dealers at the rate of Rs4,500 which was being sold at the rate of Rs5,000 to Rs6,000 per card.
A dealer, on assurance for anonymity, claimed that the shortage was being created by the company itself to sell a SIM card at Rs8,000. He alleged that the shortage was created with the connivance of the company high-ups.
He said a distributor in the Prince Market sold a card to a consumer, Muhammad Asif, at the rate of Rs4,500 but he insisted on issuance of receipt of Rs4,000.
The local traders demanded that the government should take action against the company.
SWINDLED: A man was deprived of his cash by some swindlers on the pretext of making the amount double.
One Haji Muhammad Zarif made a complaint to the SSP that one Ehsanullah, claiming to be a Subedar in the Pakistan Army, had deceitfully extorted Rs175,000 from his son a few days ago and assured him that he would provide him Rs350,000 in the evening.
The complainant alleged that when he demanded his actual amount, he was threatened with dire consequences and was confined illegally.
He said he (Ehsan) has set up his office on the Khushab-Sargodha road and has employed two people who helped him in befooling the people.
This is not the first incident in the city. A few month ago some women took the gold ornaments from women on the pretext of doubling them. They were arrested but were released on bail.
BID ON LIFE: A man attempted to kill the alleged lover of his wife in the court of an additional sessions judge here on Thursday.
One Ayub had lodged a complaint under Hudood Ordinance against his wife Kausar and Abdul Ghafoor. Both the parties were in the court waiting for the arrival of judge Mian Muhammad Younus. All of a sudden Ayub pulled his gun and opened fire on Ghafoor. Fortunately, the bullet missed the target and hit the wall. The accused tried to escape from the court but was overpowered by some people.
Cantonment police reached the court and arrested the accused.
