ISLAMABAD, July 3: The Overseas Investors Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OICCI) has sent various proposals for trade policy 2003-04 to the Commerce Ministry.

The OICCI has proposed revival of temporary import for test, trial and demonstration purposes.

The facility was announced under the import and export procedure order (EPPO) 1999, which was withdrawn through EPPO 2000.

The proposals, a copy of which was made available to Dawn, said that under contractual obligations/warranty exporters were bound to remove manufacturing defects by repairing or through replacement.

Replacement provision was available under EPPO 2000 but removal of defect through repairs was not currently covered under the same EPPO. It should be provided in the trade policy 2003-04.

They sought 25 per cent freight subsidy, as announced for exporters of new products, for PSF exporters.

It was proposed that domestic fibre industry should continue to remain excluded from DTRE regime; duty drawback rate should be revised regularly; export rebates of customs duty should be settled within 60 days from the date of filing return and the requirement of excisable goods should be dispensed with and anti- dumping laws should be improved to protect local industry.
