PORT LOUIS, July 2: Bus services between India and Pakistan are expected to resume on July 11 as part of measures to ease tensions between the two nuclear neighbours, India’s foreign minister said on Wednesday.

“We wanted to start it from the first of July, but then some formalities took time. So we have now suggested to the Pakistani authorities that the bus service could begin from the 11th July and we have called for people to come and reserve their seats,” Yashwant Sinha told a news conference on a visit to Mauritius.

“If everything goes according to our plan and there are no further difficulties, then the bus service should begin from the 11th of July,” he said.

The bus service between New Delhi and Lahore was discontinued, along with direct rail and air links, after India accused Pakistan of supporting an attack on the Indian parliament in December 2001.—Reuters
