Eid in parts of NWFP today

Published December 16, 2001

PESHAWAR, Dec 15: Eid-ul-Fitr would be observed in parts of the NWFP, including Peshawar, on Sunday in line with an announcement made by a team of ulema who held a meeting at Qasim Ali Khan mosque here on Saturday.

The ulema team, comprising Qari Khair-ul-Bashar and Maulvi Azizullah, made the announcement on the basis of evidence of moon sighting recorded by some 46 individuals from different parts of the provincial capital and other parts, including Mardan, Bakhsho Pul, Urmur and Bara, in Khyber agency of the Federally Administered Tribal Areas.

Apart from parts of Peshawar, other areas where Eid would be observed on Sunday — a day ahead of the officially announced Eid — include Mardan, Swabi, and parts of Khyber agency.

The ulema team announced observing of Eid on Sunday a couple of hours after the Central Ruet-i-Hilal Committee, that held its session in Karachi, pronounced that Eid-ul-Fitr would fall on Monday.

The team also announced that Eid prayers would be offered at 8am at Qasim Ali Khan mosque on Sunday.

A majority of the NWFP areas, including Hazara, Malakanad, Dera Ismail Khan and Kohat divisions would, however, observe Eid on Monday, as officially announced.
