ISLAMABAD: The special court on Friday resumed its hearing of the treason case against former military ruler General (retd) Pervez Musharraf, DawnNews reported.

The three-judge court, headed by Justice Faisal Arab, resumed its hearing of the case during which Supreme Court Bar Association President Kamran Murtaza submitted a written apology in the court on behalf of Musharraf’s counsel Rana Ijaz.

Earlier today, Ijaz was barred from entry in the court in the wake of his controversial remarks directed at Justice Arab.

Following submission of the apology, Ijaz was granted entry in the court.

Addressing the court on March 11, Rana Ijaz, a former law minister of Punjab, said he had received “life threat from Lyari gang” and presumed that Justice Arab was behind it. He had demanded registration of an FIR against the judge.

Taking exception to the remarks, the court had banned his entry into the courtroom and forwarded the matter to the Pakistan Bar Council for taking disciplinary action against the counsel.

Judges' detention case: Court accepts Musharraf's exemption plea

The anti-terrorism court in Islamabad, which was hearing the judges’ detention case against Musharraf, accepted an application submitted by the former’s president’s counsel requesting exemption for him.

His counsel, Ilyas Siddiqui, said there were security threats to Musharraf’s life and that it would be a risk to produce him in the court. He added that Musharraf would be produced once the security situation improved.

Meanwhile, public prosecutor Nadeem Tabish Khan said the court should issue an arrest warrant for the former president.

After completion of the arguments, the court accepted the plea for exemption and adjourned the hearing of the case to April 4.
