LARKANA, July 2: Fifteen policemen were arrested on Wednesday after two under-trial prisoners escaped from their custody.
Those arrested were identified as ASI Mohammad Mithal Kori, in charge of the police squad, ASI Ghulam Hussain Langah, Ghulam Mehdi, Mohammad Akil, Mohammad Hassain, Shahid Hussain, Mohammad Hassan, Nazeer Hussain, Haji Mohammad, Zahid Hussain, Arbab Ali, Mohammad Siddiq, Miandad Khan, Ali Gohar and Shahzado.
Bakht Ali and Mohammad Umar, facing trials in murder, robbery and Hudood cases, escaped from the custody of the police squad after disembarking the prison van.
However, the escaping prisoners were tracked down by a team of the police, led by the DSP and SHO of Shahdadkot, in a nearby rice mill.
When contacted, DSP Zulfikar Khoso told this correspondent that the two UTPs had escaped with handcuffs and had got rid of the same later. He said any of the squad members might have given them the keys. He said it was a planned programme as, according to his information, relatives of the escaping prisoners were around the site of the incident.
The DSP said an FIR would be registered against the policemen. He further said separates cases would be registered against the escaping prisoners.
PRISONER INJURED: An under-trial prisoner was injured in firing near the sessions court here on Wednesday.
The prisoner, Shafi Mohammad Wagiyo, was injured when a man, Roshan Ali Umrani, shot at another UTP, Zameer Hussain Umrani. Zameer Hussain escaped unhurt.
The injured was taken to the Chandka Medical College Hospital.
The police have arrested Roshan Ali and registered an FIR against him.
