SUKKUR, July 2: An investigation team, appointed by the Jacobabad DCO, continued on Wednesday an investigation into the alleged embezzlement of Rs180 million through bogus vouchers.

The three-member investigation team checked 134 authority letters supposedly issued by the Sindh accountant general office, of which only five were found to be genuine while 129 letters turned out to be bogus, through which millions of the rupees were misappropriated.

According to the sources, the officers of the education and treasury departments were jointly busy in drawing heavy amounts through fake authority letters of house purchase bills of the government employees and had allegedly drawn around Rs180 millions in this way.

On receiving the information, DCO Bakhshial Khan Gudaro arranged a raid by the anti-corruption authorities on the treasury office, in which several fake authority letters were recovered.

He also constituted an investigation committee, consisting of revenue EDO Shamsuddin Soomro, DDO Shoukat Jokhio and anti-corruption circle officer Nisar Ahmed Brohi, which managed to immediately stop the payments of such bills through the banks of the district.

During checking of record, 135 fake authority letters were found through which Rs60 millions was to be drawn from the banks.

The fake authority letters consisted of bills amounting from Rs100,000 to Rs1.2 million in the name of teaching and other staff.

NARCOTICS: At least 80 kgs of charas was recovered by the Excise Police from a truck (PRK-8582), near Moro, on Wednesday.

The Excise Police arrested the truck driver, Gul Wali, and the cleaner, Sehat Jan. It impounded the truck.

ROBBED: Three armed dacoits barged into the house of PML women wing leader, Aqeela Naz, and stole Rs1 million in cash and jewellry in Dhak Road, Sukkur, on Wednesday.

ACCIDENT: A man, Khadim Bhangwar, was killed and his brother, Ali Bux, and his friend, Sawali, were injured when a truck (QAG-1223) rammed into their motorcycle near the Rano stop, Kandhkot, on Wednesday.

Both the injured were taken to the Larkana Hospital.

Police arrested the truck driver, Abdul Aziz Kanrani.

RECRUITMENT: The Pakistan Navy Recruitment and Selection Centre, Sukkur, has announced that registration for naval cadets would start from July 7 and continue upto August 13.

Candidates aged between 16 and 21 years, having a height of 5ft 4 inches and above, who have passed their FSC (pre-engineering) with 60 per cent marks could apply. Desirous candidates have been advised to report along with their marks sheet (FSC/Matric), certificate or school leaving certificate, NIC or Form B and a postal order of Rs100, the announcement added.
