MIANWALI, July 1: The Chashma nuclear power plant has stopped generating electricity after developing some technical fault, it is learnt on Tuesday.

According to sources, a fault has been detected in the steam-line, which could not be removed immediately. They say it will take a month to rectify the fault and restore power supply to Wapda.

When contacted, the authorities at the power plant told this correspondent that the plant had tripped and it would be restarted within 10 to 15 days. They added that Chinese engineers had been called for this purpose.

ELECTED: A senior lawyer, Muhammad Hanif, has been elected unopposed chairman of the public safety commission here on Tuesday.

The government had selected eight people — Advocate Muhammad Hanif, Advocate Nisar Abbas Jaura, Maj Asmatullah Khan (retired), Capt Ahmad Sher Khan (retired), Malik Muhammad Akram, Begum Gulsher Khan, Mazhar Mohsin Khan and Ghayyas Mehdi — for the post.

After a long gap, Advocate Hanif and Begum Gulsher Khan filed nomination papers for the post, but the latter withdrew her nomination.

District Nazim Humair Hayat Khan Rokri said now the PSC would properly start working and it would liaise between the police and people.

Speaking at a press conference, Advocate Hanif said the PSC was not meant to keep an eye on police, but it would fight corruption rampant in all the government departments. — Correspondent
