BAHAWALPUR, July 1: Hundreds of activists of the PML-N and the PPP protested on Tuesday against deportation of the members of the Sharif family.
Honouring the call of the high-command, the PML-N activists set up a protest camp outside the Farid Gate from morning till 5pm. The PPP workers, activists of the People’s Youth Wing and women leaders of both the parties joined the protest.
Banners displayed at the camp were emblazoned with slogans against the government and President Gen Pervez Musharraf.
Speaking at a press conference, the opposition members criticized the government for deporting the three women of the Sharif family, saying they were the citizens of Pakistan and had a legal right to live in the country.
They demanded the government that it should let the former prime minister return home to save the country from further disaster. The protesters pledged to continue struggle to bring democracy to the country.
MULTAN: Local PML-N activists set up camps and staged rallies to protest against the deportation of the wife and daughters of their exiled leader Shahbaz Sharif.
Various camps were set up for men and women at the Kutchery Chowk. The camps were attended by the PML-N leaders and local activists.
Acting PML-N chief Makhdoom Javed Hashmi reached the venue a couple of hours late, making the party activists to wait in the scorching heat.
The protesters had held banners and placards inscribed with slogans against what they labelled despotic rule of Gen Pervez Musharraf.
Mr Hashmi termed the Sharif family’s extradition unlawful. He said the military junta had crossed all limits to victimize the family.
A police contingent remained on duty during the protest.
GUJRANWALA: Punjab PML-N chief organizer and former federal minister Ghulam Dastgir Khan has condemned the use of force against party president’s wife and her daughters to deport them and termed it the violation of constitution and human rights.
He said at a news conference here on Tuesday that PML-N chief Shahbaz Sharif, former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and their family members were bonafide citizens of Pakistan and had an unchallengable right to reside in the country of their birth.
He said that people of Pakistan and politicians should denounce the government act.
SARGODHA: Local PML-N leadership held a protest rally here on Tuesday to express its resentment against the deportation of the Shabaz Sharif family. The rally was led by Chaudhry Abdul Hameed, ex-MNA, and Abdul Razaq Dhilon.
Ms Tayaba Zamir, a member of the central committee of PML-N, said that she would go on hunger strike by setting up a camp at Kutchery Bazaar on Wednesday.
