GUJRANWALA, June 30: Six people, including a woman, were injured after falling prey to an open manhole of the Pakistan Telecommunication Company Ltd on Ratta Road, Green Town, here on Monday.

Reports said the PTCL constructed a manhole for its underground cable, but did not cover it with a lid. A rickshaw was on its way when it overturned after hitting the manhole. The driver and two passengers, including a woman, sustained serious injuries and were taken to the DHQ Civil Hospital.

Three other passers-by were injured when they fell into the open manhole.

The area people informed the PTCL authorities, and the concerned divisional engineer and the sub-divisional officer visited the site and submitted a report to higher authority. But no action has been taken against PTCL’s development wing for not covering the manhole.

They demanded that the manhole should be covered immediately besides an action against the responsible officials.
