MITHI, June 30: The Tharparkar District Council on Monday approved its Rs1.117 billion budget for 2003-2004.

In the budget, Rs882.797 million was allocated for non-development heads and Rs223 million was earmarked for development works.

An amount of Rs11.548 million was fixed for the district council, Rs67.384 million for education, Rs24.463 million for health, Rs0.5 million for cultural activities, Rs0.5 million for different programmes and Rs2.5 million was allocated for requirements of various departments.

Speaking at the session, District Nazim Arbab Ataullah said no new tax was imposed in the budget.

He said the required expenses would be met from grants provided by the Sindh government.

The Nazim assured the council members that their grievances would be resolved on priority basis. The session was presided over by convener Ramsingh Sodho.
