LAHORE, June 29: The Punjab government has imposed a ban on the construction of poultry farms near residential areas in the province.

Official sources told APP on Sunday the decision was taken at a meeting of Punjab Poultry Advisory Board, headed by provincial minister for livestock and dairy development Syed Haroon Ahmad Sultan.

A committee was also constituted to review poultry farms act and submit recommendations to the livestock department for its improvement.

Punjab livestock and dairy development department’s research wing director-general and deputy secretary (regulation) besides representatives of the poultry association constitute the committee.

The poultry association was asked to launch an awareness campaign about the utility of chicken meat and protein requirement of the human body.

The meeting expressed concern over the availability of spurious medicines and vaccines for poultry and decided to form special teams to check the menace with the cooperation of the Punjab health department.—APP
