HYDERABAD, Dec 15: A large number of irrigation employees of Kotri Barrage staged a protest sit-in on the Jamshoro bridge and blocked the road against police excesses here on Saturday.

According to reports, a police constable, Zahoor Lund, went to the Kotri Barrage control room, near Al-Manzar Hotel, and tried to use the telephone.

The Darogha on duty, Abdul Wahid Khoso, told the constable to seek the permission of the officials for using the telephone.

Taking offence, the police constable attacked the Darogha with fists and an iron rod as a result of which Darogha Abdul Wahid Khoso was injured.

Following the incident, the irrigation employees collected there, caught hold of the police constable and handed him over to the other police personnel who were deployed on duty at the Jamshoro bridge.

However, police constable Zahoor Lund was let off. This infuriated the irrigation employees and they came out on the bridge raising slogans against the police.

They staged sit-in and blocked the bridge for quite sometime. Later, an officer of the irrigation department, Zahid Shaikh, along with others and the SHO of Jamshoro police station also rushed to the spot.

During talks, the irrigation employees were assured that strict action will be taken against the delinquent police constable. Following this assurance, the blockade was lifted after one hour.
