PESHAWAR, June 28: The NWFP Governor, Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah, has said that the army has been deployed in the tribal agency in order to guard the Pakistan-Afghanistan border and to ensure security.

He was speaking at a tribesmen’s gathering at Mazari Cheena on Saturday.

The governor said that the backwardness of the border areas of Mohmand Agency would be removed through strenuous efforts. He assured the Khoezai and Baizai tribes that the government would develop their areas.

On his arrival at the Bhai Qila the governor was accorded a warm welcome. Political agent Sahibzada Mohammad Anis briefed him about the recent situation in the region. A large number of tribal elders and elite was present on the occasion.

Later the governor drove from Bhai Qila to Mazari Cheena, the area of Khoezai and Baizai tribes, lying close to the border.

Mr Shah also thanked the tribesmen for the cooperation they had extended to the army.

He informed the gathering that a project for supplying electricity to the region had already been initiated. He said that development projects in education, health and communication sectors would also be launched in near future.

Later,  the  governor also had an aerial view  of  the  border area.
