LARKANA, June 26: A large number of growers, on the call of the Sindh Abadgar Board (SAB), held a protest demonstration in Qubo Saeed Khan on Thursday against water shortage.
A shutter-down strike was also observed in the town.
Carrying banners and placards, the growers also staged a sit-in on the Shahdadkot-Khuzdar Road for one hour and burnt tyres.
Speaking on the occasion, Larkana SAB president Ishaq Mughiri, Khalid Umar, Mohammad Hassan Magsi and others criticized irrigation officials for not supplying water to the area. They said thousands of acres of land would be destroyed if water was not released in Saifullah Magsi and SKT branches.
They warned that they would stage a sit-in in Shahdadkot if water was not released in the branches.
HESCO: Villagers staged a demonstration at Wasand Shakh near Banguldero and blocked the Larkana-Sukkur Road here on Thursday to protest against Hesco for disconnecting power supply to their villages.
The blockade ended after Hesco officials arrived at the scene and held negotiations with the protesters.
When contacted, a Hesco official said many of the consumers were not paying their bills for the last ten years.
Later, power supply to the villages was restored.
ADVISER: The adviser to the Sindh chief minister on home affairs, Aftab Ahmad Shaikh, has urged police officers to curb criminal activities.
Presiding over a meeting here on Thursday, Mr Shaikh called for increasing police patrolling on highways.
He said action would be taken against policemen who committed excesses against people.
Briefing the adviser, the DPO of Larkana, Sultan Khwaja, said motorcycle-snatching incidents had decreased by 70 per cent in the district.
He said that the police should remain vigilant at all times, be it day or night.
