PTI chief slams US aid package

Published June 27, 2003

MANSEHRA, June 26: Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf (PTI) Chair-man Imran Khan has said the nation will have to pay heavy cost and sacrifice its vital interests for the $3 billion aid package announced by US President Bush for Pakistan at Camp David.

He was speaking to newsmen at the residence of a former provincial minister and a spokesman for the independent group in the NWFP Assembly, Shahzada Mohammad Gustasap Khan, at village Som Elahimong here on Wednesday.

Mr Khan went there to offer condolence on the death of Gustasap’s brother, Shahzada Mohammad Azam Khan.

By branding Federal Finance Minister Shaukat Aziz a non-elected member in the Musharraf’s entourage, Imran Khan said such an important delegation should have been led by the prime minister.

The PTI chief said Mr Jamali was the most powerless prime minister in the history of Pakistan, observing that a military dictator had literally turned the prime minister into a rubber stamp.
